DEL MAR COLLEGE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

In addition to the Sue Stanford Scholarship, the AAUW Corpus Christi Branch awards two $500 scholarships each year to Del Mar College students.  Recipients of the Del Mar College scholarships are selected by the College’s Foundation.

2020 Del Mar College Scholarship Recipients

The AAUW Corpus Christi Branch awarded $500 scholarships to two Del Mar College students, Mackenzie Ortiz and Cassandra Reyna, for the 2020-21 academic year.  Although we were unable to meet these students at the Del Mar College Scholarship Reception which was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are delighted to have provided support to these ladies as they pursue their higher education goals.

Mackenzie Ortiz is majoring in chemical lab technology.  She works hard to maintain her grades while keeping a full-time job.  Her aspirations are to become a chemical lab technician.  She stated that the AAUW scholarship helped her buy textbooks that she needed to complete her classes last semester.

Cassandra Reyna is a single mother majoring in nursing.  She also used her AAUW scholarship to purchase textbooks and other supplies needed for her coursework.  Cassandra plans to graduate with an associate’s degree in nursing and then attend Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi to work on a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  Cassandra mentioned how important her education is, not only for herself and her career, but also to inspire and be an exemplary role model for her daughter.

We congratulate these ladies who demonstrate perseverance and dedication to their educational goals, and we hope there may be an opportunity in the future for our membership to get to know them better.
