UPDATE March 13, 2020:
Based on City recommendations of no gatherings of 50 or more, this event is postponed until further notice.
The AAUW Corpus Christi Branch is one of several co-sponsors for the Equal Pay for Women Workshop and Luncheon scheduled for March 31, 2020, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 900 Shoreline Dr. This year’s workshop theme is:
“2020 WOMEN, WHY NOT EQUAL PAY?”
We are proud to announce that the guest speaker will be AAUW Board member Janet Blanke.
A former structural engineer and IBM executive, Janet Blanke understands the obstacles that professional women face in the modern workplace. Not least among these is the hurdle of a living wage and salary and benefits equity. Graduating from Purdue in 1979, Janet was a pioneer for women in the field of engineering. For five years, she worked as a bridge design engineer. She then was hired by IBM, where she worked for thirty-two years, including ten years in management. There she was responsible for hiring, firing, and training new employees.
Since retirement in 2016, Janet has volunteered in a variety of roles, empowering women, especially in matters related to their careers. As a member of the Corpus Christi branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Janet serves on its Board of Directors. She began the branch’s prized STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, giving middle school girls the opportunity to meet female professionals in the science and tech fields.
Tickets for the event are $8 for women and $10 for men, to signify the wage gap. To register for the event, get your tickets through the YWCA by clicking here.
